School facilities

Adelaide North Special School was specially designed with many features to support our students with a wide range of disabilities. ANSS supports students from reception to year 12.

Each cohort learns in a separate building and each of our classrooms has its own dedicated outdoor area. These enclosed areas are accessed directly from the classroom for use as learning or regulation spaces.

Facilities and playgrounds

Play zones consisting of open and undercover spaces, are located throughout the school to cater for all students’ needs.

Located in the centre of ANSS grounds is a large central park area with a bike track, in-ground all-ability trampolines, liberty swing and a BBQ area.

Visit our photo gallery for more pictures of our facilities.

Memorial garden

Adjacent to the administration building is our memorial garden to remember and honour students in our community who have passed away.

Swimming programs

At Adelaide North Special School, junior and severe and multiple disability students participate in weekly swimming programs at The Parks Recreation Centre to assist them with water familiarity, gain confidence and improve physical mobility.

The secondary students attend a week of swimming at the Aquadome or Aquatics at West Lakes.

Resource centre

The Resource Centre is well equipped to cater for all learners and a visual referencing system is available enabling students to independently access resources.

The importance of literacy is evident by our well-stocked and up-to-date library which is open to all students and classes throughout the week.

Students participate throughout the year in the Premiers Reading Challenge where they are rewarded for their efforts with medals or certificates.

Book Week is an annual event celebrated by all students, staff and families with a Book Week Parade held in Central Park or the gym.

We participate in the National Simultaneous Storytime each year in May.

Gymnasium and industrial kitchen

Our modern, air-conditioned gymnasium is used for sporting lessons and community space events including assemblies, graduation ceremonies.

An industrial kitchen adjacent to the gym which classes access as part of our life skills programs and whole school events.

The gym is also used by the YMCA for vacation care (OSHC) during school holidays.

Buses

Adelaide North Special School has 4 buses, including three 12 seaters and one wheelchair modified bus. All of these buses were kindly donated to ANSS by Variety in Action which are used throughout the week to support excursions, swimming programs and whole school events throughout the year.

Many of our staff members hold bus licenses to enable our school the flexibility of transporting our students without the need to rely on external providers.
