Students as Communicators

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is used to assist students in developing and complementing their communication skills. All of our students with Complex Communication Needs (CCN), use PODD  communication books (Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display) or other AAC systems, such as Compass PODD on iPads. These are used in combination with other modes of communication including aided language displays, keyword signing, graphic symbols and verbalisation to support independent communication across the school day.

ANSS has employed internationally renowned speech pathologist and special educator, Jane Farrall, to support the development of AAC skills for staff and students across the school. Jane has also supported the establishment of our literacy (reading, writing and assessment program) using comprehensive literacy instruction.
